Cathedral Volunteers Update – COVID-19

Dear All,

We trust this finds you well and managing the huge changes we are all presently experiencing with the measures to halt the progress of COVID-19 in our community. Here at the Cathedral we are keenly aware of the added stress and tiredness so many are feeling with the rearrangement of many aspects of daily life. Please be assured of our prayers for you as part of our staff daily prayers.

We are writing to you particularly to inform you of how we are delivering ministry at this time. In response to the currently announced restrictions and request by both the Prime Minister and Premier, you will know the Archbishop has made the decision that services attended by the public must cease for the present, and that it is safest for our communities if church buildings are not open to the congregation and public during the day. Our most recent information is that we may have no more than 5 people in the building for services that are streamed on the internet.

In line with this, I would like to make clear to you that all volunteer rosters and volunteer involvement at the Cathedral is currently suspended. That includes servers, readers, intercessors, the flower guild, our sacristan, welcomers, story tellers, guides, shop volunteers, chaplains, English conversation class assistants, lay deacons, our morning tea providers, the Hospitality Group, and cleaning working bee helpers. There are very many of you, and as you can imagine, we are missing seeing you very much! We wish to remind you how grateful we are for your enormous generosity to the Cathedral community in your support of our ministry.

As soon as it is deemed safe for our regular ministries to resume, we will be in touch. In the meantime we continue in prayer for your good health and well being, and ask you would pray the same for us.

Grace and peace,

Dean Andreas and Canon Heather.
