The Cathedral Chapter have elected the Revd Canon Robert Yee Hin Vun as the inaugural Canon Missioner of St Paul’s Cathedral. Canon Vun currently is the Vicar of St Matthias’ Church, North Richmond and the Coordinator of Chinese Ministries in the Diocese of Melbourne. For almost 12 years, Robert has been a member of the Cathedral Chapter. Robert is married to Ruth, who volunteers with our English as a Second Language program and as a Cathedral guide.
Robert brings with him extensive knowledge of ministry in a cross-cultural setting, including ministry in Mandarin, Cantonese, Hakka and Bahasa. Robert said: ‘It is with delight and also with great humility that I accept God’s call to my new role as the Canon Missioner. I covet your prayers and support as I embark on this heavy responsibility by faith in our Almighty God’.
Canon Robert is passionate about reaching out to the people of Melbourne and those visiting our Cathedral: ‘It is my passion to evangelise, disciple and multiply disciple makers to do the same’, Canon Robert explained: ‘This, to me is making the gospel fully known to everyone – from the unchurched to church leaders’.
Reflecting on his new responsibilities, Canon Robert said: ‘This is a pivotal post that enhances and enriches the life and witness of the Cathedral in multiple ways. I look forward to facilitating the effectiveness of the Cathedral in its outreach, discipleship and growing of leaders’.
Dean of Melbourne, the Very Revd Dr Andreas Loewe, said: ‘We are delighted that Canon Robert is joining our team as the inaugural Canon Missioner. Robert’s gifts will enable him to build connections with those who live, work and study in our great multicultural city, and equip our existing members to share in this ministry and mission. We look forward to welcoming Robert, and his wife Ruth, to the Cathedral family in this new role’.
Canon Vun will take up his appointment as Canon Missioner on 31 March 2019. On taking up his appointment, he will relinquish his governance responsibilities on Chapter and become a Cathedral Canon instead. In addition to his duties, he will remain a reserve Defence Force Chaplain with the Melbourne University Regiment.
