At a special Chapter Choral Evensong to be held at St Paul’s, at 5.10pm on 2 December 2025, the Dean of Melbourne, the Very Revd Dr Andreas Loewe will install Dr Toni Meath as a Chapter Canon. All are welcome.
Dr Meath was appointed to the Cathedral Chapter (Governing Body) by the Bishop Administrator of the Diocese, the Rt Revd Genieve Blackwell, and fills a vacancy left by Canon Emerita Assoc. Prof. Avril Brereton, who relocated to Tasmania earlier in the year.
About Dr Meath:
Dr Toni Meath is Principal of Melbourne Girls Grammar – An Anglican School. Prior to this role, Toni served as a teacher and Principal in the Victorian Department of Education and Training for 24 years, and as a teacher in the NSW Department of Education for 13 years.
Toni is passionate about the importance of using critical thinking and problem solving in student centred pedagogical approaches as ways to prepare students for success in their future world. Her portfolio across all schools has been one of leading a strong inclusive performance and development culture honouring the important role of students and teachers in leading school and cultural transformation.
Toni has extensive Board and governance experience and is currently Chair of the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership. Toni has held Board positions on The Alliance of Girls’ Schools Australasia (AGSA) and the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). Toni is a State and National Fellow of the Australian Council of Educational Leaders (ACEL) and the 2023 recipient of the ACEL National Nganakarrawa Award for her contribution to education.
