Ecumenical Service of Evening Prayer to mark the 110th anniversary of the Armenian, Assyrian and Greek Genocides
Sunday, April 6, 2025 at 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm
This special service will bring together Melburnians from diverse backgrounds to honour the memory of the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide, to stand in solidarity with the Armenian, Assyrian and Greek people, and to reaffirm our shared commitment to justice, truth-telling, and healing.
The service will feature prayers, readings, and musical offerings from the Armenian, Assyrian, and Greek spiritual traditions. During the service, the inaugural Edith Glanville Humanitarian Award will be presented to honour the historic friendship between the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne and the Armenian, Assyrian, and Greek people. This award acknowledges the profound legacy of Anglican leaders such as Archbishop Harrington Lees, who extended vital support to genocide survivors. It serves as a lasting tribute to the humanitarian efforts of the Anglican community and its unwavering and ongoing commitment to justice for all.
Your presence and participation in this solemn commemoration would be deeply meaningful. We believe that remembering and lamenting the Armenian Genocide is a responsibility that belongs to all people of goodwill.
By standing with the Armenian, Assyrian and Greek communities in their ongoing struggle for recognition and justice, we each can play our part in reaffirming the dignity of all human life and our shared hope for a world where such atrocities are consigned to the past.
