Please join us for a Memorial Choral Evensong in thanksgiving for the life and ministry of The Right Reverend Dr Keith Rayner AO, former Archbishop of Melbourne and Primate of the Anglican Church of Australia, who died on 12 January 2025 at the age of 95.
Bishop Rayner was a distinguished theologian and renowned church leader who guided the Anglican Church through a pivotal and sometimes turbulent period. He provided the intellectual and pastoral leadership needed to navigate complex issues such as the ordination of women while maintaining the unity of the national church. A man of great faith, wisdom and compassion, Bishop Rayner’s legacy and influence continues to shape Anglicanism in Melbourne.
All are welcome to attend this special service led by the Dean of Melbourne and Cathedral colleagues, at which Bishop Kate Prowd, who was among the first cohort of women to be ordained priest by Bishop Keith, will preach. Clergy are invited to robe and process (bishops: red convocation robes, priests and deacons: choir dress/alb and white stole).
The service will be livestreamed on the Cathedral’s website for those unable to attend in person. May Bishop Keith rest in peace and rise in glory.
