As we approach the end of 2021, we would like to take the opportunity to reflect upon some of the many special moments which took place at St Paul’s Cathedral this year.
- In February, 16 candidates were ordained as Deacons in the Church of God, many of whom were also ordained Priest in November.
- February also saw the return of our popular Lunchtime Concert Series, and it was wonderful to welcome many new and returning artists to perform.
- On Easter Day, 14 people were baptised and confirmed at our Easter Vigil service. It was a joy to celebrate the Resurrection with congregations in the Cathedral again.
- After Easter, we joined with others throughout the world in marking the death of HRH Prince Philip with a service of Choral Evensong attended by the Governor of Victoria and other dignitaries.
- We marked the return of Curfew here in Melbourne in August with #CarolsatCurfew, uniting people each night at 9pm to sing God’s praises as a symbol of hope in the darkness.
- During Science Week we held a special Q&A in partnership with ISCAST with world-renowned Agronomist and ‘Forest Maker’ Tony Rinaudo. Throughout the year we have worked hard to advocate and make meaningful change to help prevent a Climate Emergency.
- In November we installed the Revd Canon Glenn Loughery as the first Aboriginal Canon of the Cathedral and as Artist-in-Residence.
- During November & December, we welcomed thousands of people into the Cathedral Close as part of the City of Melbourne’s Christmas Lights Festival.
This past year has held many challenges for us all. We would like to express our gratitude to those who have continued to support our ministry: through prayer, words of encouragement, pastoral support of other members of our community, donations, and lending expertise.
